The following are my notes from the main session with Francis Chan of Cornerstone Church. This first session was themed, "Jesus is Lord" from the book, "The Forgotten Ways" by Alan Hirsch.
Jesus is Lord.
Francis Chan
Speaking of desire within a Christ-follower... "Is that what you want more than anything? To know that God is with me?"
Speaking of church strategies... "All I want is the presence of God. If He's not in it, I don't want any part of it."
"Maybe we're regurgent..." In regard to church culture labels (emergent, post-modern, seeker, mega-church) and how we should approach the Bible. He then pretended to read his Bible and throw up what he read on others. It was quite funny yet soberingly true of who we should be.
Recommendation to church leaders... "Be Biblically courageous; erase what you've seen anywhere else."
"To stay on mission and make disciples, we need fellowship to encourage us."
Francis gave an illustration of how the game "Simon says" works, then said the following...
"If Jesus says something, you don't have to do it... just memorize it." His words and posture were soaked with sarcasm.
His advice to church planters and what to think about... "If I just started with scripture, this is what I would do."
"[The book of] Acts is radical but makes sense."
"If you saw someone rise from the grave, you'd tell everyone you know."
"Are you sure you've experienced the Holy Spirit this last year?"
"What are the things Jesus wants? These are the things we should be confident of."
Honestly, there was a lot more of significance that Francis said and how he said it. His posture and facial expressions tell half of the story. I could not capture it all because most of the time I was just trying to listen to what God wanted to tell me through Francis.
